Per tre giorni una delegazione di alto livello guidata dall’ambasciatore Ahmed Al-Hasani ha tenuto incontri a sostegno del ritorno dell’Iraq nel Consiglio per l’Unità Economica Araba.

Over three days, a high-level delegation led by Ambassador Mohammadi Ahmed Al-Ni, Secretary-General of the Council of Arab Economic Unity, visited Iraq at the invitation and with the coordination of the Arab Union for Combating Forgery, Counterfeiting and Money Laundering, headed by Ambassador Ahmed Abbas Al-Hasani, together with representatives of the Council, the head of the Union’s Iraq branch and members of the Union.

The delegation held intensive meetings, arranged in advance by the Union’s President, with the President of the Republic of Iraq and a large number of ministers, senior officials, leaders and parliamentarians. The central outcome was agreement to lift the freeze on Iraq’s membership and to restore the country, a founding and active member that chaired the Council for many years, to its rightful place within the Council of Arab Economic Unity.

The programme included meetings with Mr Nouri Al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition; the Minister of Justice, Counsellor Khalid Shwani; the head of the Federation of Industries, Mr Adel Akab Hussein; the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Faiq Zaidan; the head of the National Investment Commission, Dr Haider Mohammed Makiya; the Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi; the head of the Journalists’ Syndicate, Mr Muayad Al-Lami; His Excellency President Abdul Latif Rashid; the Minister of Health, Dr Saleh Mahdi Al-Hasnawi; the Governor of the Central Bank, Ali Mohsen Ismail Al-Allaq; and Mr Hadi Al-Amiri, member of parliament.

The talks also covered Iraq’s accession as a founding member of the Arab Court of Arbitration and Dispute Resolution, which protects investment and investors, an idea that was warmly welcomed. The Union presented its expanded plan, which includes an academy for training professionals in combating forgery, counterfeiting and money laundering; the largest forensic laboratory in the Middle East for detecting forgery and counterfeiting, to be built in Iraq; and an integrated training proposal covering digital-transformation governance, artificial intelligence, forensic detection of forgery and comprehensive training for the banking sector. The Iraq branch was reactivated with the appointment of Mr Saad Al-Awsi as its head.
